About Us

The LitArt Foundation

The LitArt Foundation is a ‘not for profit organization’ founded on 14th June 2023 by Proyashi Barua and Jyotsna Neog. It envisages contributing towards the upliftment of the creative ecosystems of the state of Assam through a variety of innovative measures. Creating a sustainable ecosystem for the creative fraternity of the region is one cardinal long term objective.
Our work is not just north east centric as we are also focused on promoting and reiterating both the age-old and the evolving literary and creative traditions of India. While on one hand we intend to give a platform to upcoming writers and artists to showcase their talent, on the other hand we want to create similar platforms specifically for established authors, artists, musicians, actors and directors to share their opinions and experiences with the youth.

We conduct online and physical workshops, master classes, webinars etc. We also hand hold new writers to publish their stories or books with national publishers. The flagship event of our Foundation is Assam LitArt Festival - a yearly event held in Guwahati. The first edition was organized on 17th & 18th February 2024. A cardinal motto of our festival is to facilitate authors and artists from the region, irrespective of the language of their work, to collaborate with their counterparts nationally and eventually even globally. Each of our collaborations focus on national integration in the creative field because we believe that art, film, music and literature can play a great role in nation building.
Our Foundation intends to preserve and chronicle significant works of art and literature through projects which involve research and exploration. We plan to implement and deliver such projects with the help of a think tank consisting of experienced researchers, established authors and artists from the region and across the country.
Assam and the north eastern region at large abounds in scenic locations that can translate to veritable sites for film shoots for established film fraternities of the country like Bollywood, Tollywood etc. Needless to say the spread of this phenomenon shall result in fresh financial prospects for our tourism industry. Hence drawing the attention of the Indian subcontinent (through photography and videography contests and essays) is one of our many objectives. Drawing attention to the crafts of our artisans, ancient art forms, culture etc are parallel objectives.

Our Mission

The LitArt Foundation through it's plethora of initiatives and flagship property- Assam LitArt Fest strives to create platforms wherein both established and aspiring creative professionals across India can exchange ideas and work on collaborative projects. At one cardinal level the mission is to amplify the creative traditions and legacy of Assam across India and highlight the emerging talent from this state. Creating a sustainable ecosystem for the creative industry is also a key prerogative of the Foundation.

Our Vision

The LitArt Foundation envisages to revive the country and state's forgotten and lesser known traditions pertaining to literature, art, music and filmmaking/theater while addressing and highlighting the positive trends that are emerging in each of these domains. The vision is to usher a mass creative renaissance in society by reiterating the inherent connection of the creative fields with human life, an evolved social psyche and spirituality. The creative fields have tremendous potential for mitigating differences and conflicts between people and communities and hence the broad vision also is about strengthening national integration through the finer things of life.
